Meet April Williamson: Greenhouse Manager/Educator at H.O.P.E. Gardens
At H.O.P.E. Gardens, every seedling has a story—and so do the people who nurture them. One of those people is April Williamson, our dedicated Greenhouse Manager. April’s journey with H.O.P.E. Gardens began three springs ago as a volunteer, drawn in by her love for plants and the beauty of sharing them with others. Her enthusiasm, organization, and green thumb quickly became indispensable, and she officially joined the team during last year’s greenhouse season.

April brings a deep appreciation for the variety and purpose of plants, viewing them as gifts from God’s beautiful creation. “I love seeing them grow and sharing them with others,” she says. That passion now translates into her work: keeping our greenhouse organized and thriving. Thanks to April, healthy plants are sent out to our volunteers, student families, supportive home gardeners, local restaurants, hotel displays, and even food pantries.

In addition to managing the greenhouse, April loves being involved in our school gardens—helping teach students how to grow their own food and discover the wonder of plants with their own hands. Her calm guidance and joyful curiosity make her a favorite among students and a steady support to fellow educators.

Before joining H.O.P.E. Gardens, April was a home school educator, and she remains active in the community teaching English as a second language to refugees. She’s long been both a gardener and an educator, blending both skillsets naturally in her current role.
Outside of the greenhouse, April enjoys reading, hiking, and has recently taken up sewing. When asked about her favorite plant, she lights up talking about wild sorrel—a tangy little green that kids love to forage and taste right from the ground. “You can find it almost anywhere,” she shares, “but always be careful to harvest from chemical-free places.”

Her best gardening advice? “Start small and enjoy the process. Smell, taste, feel, make art with, and share what you grow.”
We’re grateful for the care and joy April brings to our greenhouse, our school gardens, and the entire H.O.P.E. Gardens community.
