Putting Our Gardens to Sleep for the Winter

As the growing season comes to an end, it’s time to tuck our gardens in for their winter rest. Recent mulch deliveries at North Godwin and Lee Middle helped us prepare the soil for the colder months, ensuring it stays protected and nourished.

These two gardens needed a little extra attention, but luckily we had plenty of hardworking students eager to lend a hand! They added layers of leaves underneath the fresh mulch to create a nutrient-rich foundation for spring planting.

At North Godwin, Josh and Mitch taught students how to winterize their garden space. Rain showers made the day extra memorable, with students donning trash bags as makeshift raincoats. But a little rain couldn’t stop these determined scholars! They pulled out towering sunflowers, cleared leftover produce, removed garden signs, and filled bucket after bucket with wood chips to spread over the beds.

Their energy and dedication reminded us of the love and care these young gardeners pour into their spaces. Thanks to their efforts, these gardens are ready to rest and recharge for another fruitful season.

A huge thank-you to all the students, teachers, and partners who make this work possible. Here’s to a bountiful garden next year! 🌱
