Empower U students made grape juice! Students harvested grapes from their garden, having a great time searching through the leaves for the last few bunches of the season.
Once inside, they began picking the grapes off the stems and carefully sorting the good ones from the bad. Afterward, the students rinsed the grapes and put them into pots. They watched closely as the mixture started to boil, while other students helped clean up the grape sorting station. Their teacher reviewed the steps involved in making the grape juice.
After a few hours of cooling, our team returned to help them strain the juice. We filled two large mason jars with juice from the 10 pounds of grapes they harvested. The students then helped set up small cups so that everyone could taste both green and red grape juice. Some preferred one over the other, while others enjoyed mixing the two.
Overall, the students were very proud of their work and loved their drinks. Their teacher shared that afterward, they excitedly told their classmates how they made the delicious juice—from the grapevine to the cup!
