This summer, we had the most beautiful time harvesting, preparing, and sharing a meal with the families we’ve been gardening with as part of our collaboration with FitKids360! It was a celebration of the hard work, care, and dedication these families put into growing their gardens, and the results were nothing short of amazing.
As we gathered in the garden, we marveled at the bountiful harvest these families helped nurture throughout the season. Each family picked and weighed their produce, admiring the variety of vegetables that filled their baskets. The table, adorned with vibrant sunflowers, fragrant dill, and kale, was the perfect backdrop to the day’s festivities. A giant candy roaster squash took center stage, while colorful Swiss chard, fresh beans, tomatoes, and peppers added to the beautiful array of farm-fresh delights.
With the harvest in hand, we got to work preparing the meal. Vegetables were chopped, ready to be grilled to perfection, and fresh herbs were carefully crushed in a stone mortar, releasing an aroma that filled the air. It was truly a feast for all the senses.
As the meal came together, we laid out the dishes for everyone to indulge in. The highlight of the day was the moment we all sat together to share the feast we had created, laughing, chatting, and celebrating the fruits of our labor. To top it off, ice-cold horchata was served from a beverage container, providing a refreshing finish to the delicious meal.
This gathering was more than just a meal—it was a celebration of community, teamwork, and the joy of growing food together. We’re so proud of what these families have accomplished, and we can’t wait to continue growing, learning, and sharing with them in the seasons to come.
