In January, Team 21 students at Lee Middle bundled up in winter coats and hats and headed into the school greenhouse for a hands-on winter garden activity. Even while the garden rested outside, the greenhouse was full of energy and excitement.

Students worked together to make pinecone bird feeders, spreading peanut butter, adding seeds, and preparing feeders that will help support birds through the cold months. The activity encouraged teamwork, creativity, and thoughtful care for wildlife during winter.
After their work was done, everyone took time to warm up with cups of hot cocoa, enjoying the cozy greenhouse and the chance to be together. Afterward, the students hung the birdfeeders throughout the garden, knowing their creations would help feed birds during the winter months. It was a simple and meaningful January experience that blended learning, service, and connection and a reminder that even in winter, there is always something growing.
