Sun, Green, Heat, Weeds, Watering Cans, Laughter, Sweat, Radishes, Conversations, little kids, parents, Seeds, Peppers, Mint, teens, Spanish and English words all swirling together over fifteen garden beds for twenty, thirty, even forty minutes. It all then unwinds in departing footsteps, two by two, and slamming car doors as the sun slants lower and longer, and the night grows quieter, as the once gathered community leaves the garden.
In July, Wormies kicked off the night by sharing a lesson in composting and the benefits of worms! Families headed to the garden to pick and share the bountiful harvest they helped plant and care for. On summer Thursday nights, FitKids360 families hopefully bring home more than the picked cucumbers and cilantro. From their shared outdoor experience, they may also harvest new ideas for gardening, a growing strengthening of their own family plus a wider, new community fostered within the chain linked garden at Marquette Park in Wyoming, Michigan.
